Deerlake Village Volunteer Page

Community volunteers are an essential part of what makes Deerlake a great place to live

These are the committees with volunteer openings along with a description of typical volunteer activities.  Please contact the respective committee chair for more information and to volunteer.

Community Activities Committee (CAC)

Multiple Volunteers Needed

The CAC plans and organizes a range of activities for Deerlake residents, including cultural, informational, recreational/physical, service, and other activities.  Volunteers attend meetings to plan events and guest speakers; and they help with the set-up and take down for events.

Lake Management  Committee (LMC)

2 volunteers needed   +  “Friends of the Lake”

Volunteers Needed: We would like two more members.

Any skill and experience would be relevant. Some physical ability would be useful but not necessary. A desire to work and manage lakes, streams, wetlands and such ecosystems would be great.

We also welcome as many “Friends of the Lake” as possible. Friends of the Lake volunteers would keep an eye out for the well-being of our lake, dam and surroundings and report any trash, unusual wildlife activity and trespassing- basically additional eyes and ears for the LMC. On the rare occasion where we need additional help in some activity, “Friends” will be asked to pitch in.

For more information or to volunteer, please contact Jim Furniss, 828-884-7280,

The Purpose of the LMC is to develop and implement guidelines which focus on the use, protection, preservation, and enhancement of Deer Lake, its streams, wetlands, and the dam, in harmony with the mission of the conservation organization, Conserving Carolina (CC) and the Conservation Easement Management Committee (CEMC) of the Deerlake Village Community Association (DVCA).
For a detailed discussion of our responsibilities, please see the Lake Management Committee Charter by clicking on the “Governance Tab” of this website and scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Landscape Review Committee (LRC)

3 – 5  new members needed

Duties on this committee can vary and go beyond the duties listed on our Charter.  LRC has responsibility for working with our outside landscape contractor; helping care for annual plantings, whether they are summer annuals or perennials; can include watering these plantings (we have limited coverage with the watering system currently in place), visiting residents’ that have applied for changes to their landscape or removal of trees that require a permit.

Maintenance Committee

Volunteer Needed to Help with Contracts

The Maintenance Committee is looking for someone who is familiar with contracts (or willing to learn about contracts).   The Committee does a very good job fixing things, cutting things, moving things, etc. However, the Committee needs someone who can help put contracts together that meet the requirements of the Deerlake Board in a timely fashion.  The contracts are with tree companies, heating and air contractors, fencing companies, and other service providers.  The Maintenance Committee Chair and Deerlake Treasurer will provide guidance here, and information on the contract process can be found at  (click on Vendor and Contract Process).
