Thursday, October 25, 3:00 at the Clubhouse
Torry Nergart of Conserving Carolina will visit us for an informational program, “Migration:  Some Surprising Life Forms That Make Incredible Journeys.” Special attention will be paid to the great annual Monarch Butterfly migration, a 3,000 mile journey from Ontario to Mexico - a spectacular feat in its own right - yet there are many migrations happening all around us that are just as much of an accomplishment. He will be emphasizing the universality of that which helps define LIFE, which is MOVEMENT!
Torry is a graduate of both Haywood Community College and Western Carolina’s forestry programs, an Eagle Scout, a husband and a dad living in Brevard. He has lived in western North Carolina for over 20 years, with family roots in the region. He moved to Brevard originally for work as a State Park Ranger at Gorges State Park, giving ten years of service to Parks before moving to Conserving Carolina three years ago. He now serves as the Conservation Easement Manager, handling almost 150 individual privately-owned conservation easement properties, around 14,500 acres total and is a certified Wildland Firefighter and NCEE Environmental Educator. Torry has hiked our conserved area many times with Don Herman so is very familiar with Deerlake.
